Literacy Week: Nov 12 - 16

Literacy Week: Nov 12 - 16

Literacy week is an opportunity for us to celebrate reading, writing, and communicating.

12 minute read | October 31, 2018

On Monday, 12 November - we will be hosting a Skype visit with Young People’s Poet Laureate winner Kenn Nesbitt. You can visit his website here. Students who wish to ask Mr. Nesbitt a question during the visit, can submit questions in an envelope at the ES library or can complete and submit this page

Also...your chance is here to dress up as your favorite book character!

When: Friday, November 16, 2018
Who’s involved: All elementary students, faculty & staff
How: Costume ideas - be creative ☺ Make something from clothes, or a costume you already have. (It isn’t necessary to purchase.)
Who could I be:

  • A Bible character
  • A character from a fiction book
  • A Fairytale character
  • A person from a factual book (George Washington, a Chinese Emperor, Julius Caesar, etc.)

Please use discretion in choosing a character for your child. Please do not dress up as Harry Potter or anything that might frighten younger children.

Students can bring props to go with the costume, but no sharp, dangerous or weapon type items please. If your child does not dress up as a character, he/she needs to come to school in the regular uniform.

Your child will still be participating in classroom lessons, lunch and recess play on this day. Your child’s costume must still allow for them to easily participate in the activities of a normal school day.

We will have a Book Character Parade in the Abundant Grace Memorial Gymnasium (2/F) before early dismissal. Parents are welcome to attend (timing for the event will be sent closer to the day). Remember to contact the school office if your child will not be taking the school bus home.
