Theatre & Public Speaking Teacher (Middle School)

Job Purpose

You will be joining a team of Christian professionals who will look for you to bring a "can-do" attitude, and your current expertise, to join a cohesive and forward looking team of educators. You are expected to offer positive contributions in delivering stimulating and effective instruction, as well as cultivating a learning environment that facilitates the achievement of the School’s Expected School-wide Learning Results (ESLRs), and a curriculum that integrates biblical worldview and understanding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment which values student care, promotes positive relationships, and contributes to the intellectual and spiritual growth of students.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons, with appropriate teaching aids and differentiated support, that align to the schools curriculum and provide clear objectives and learning outcomes for Theater & Public Speaking.
  • Operate from a standards-based perspective to design and implement assessments that facilitate timely and effective formative feedback as well as sound summative judgements.
  • Maintain regular communication and trust with parents in a welcoming, open and cooperative manner.
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with other faculty members in grade and subject teams.
  • Plan and direct the Middle School drama productions.
  • Ensure effective and efficient record and resource management, and perform administrative tasks (e.g. serving in committees and meetings, as chaperone in school and afterschool activities, etc.) as and when required.

Qualification & Experience

  • A bachelor degree in Education, Performing Arts, or bachelor degree in any related disciplines with PGCE/PGDE or equivalent awarded by an accredited university.
  • 2 years or above relevant experience in classroom teaching to secondary school students and familiarity with the international school environment and pedagogy are highly preferred.
  • Strong passion and commitment to Christian education and the teaching of theater and performing arts, with a positive attitude and a growth mindset.
  • High energy, positive, creative, resourceful with the ability to engage teenagers.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and cultivate a fun and enjoyable process for students to develop their self confidence and creativity, inquire and apply elements of performing arts and theatrical productions such as vocal and bodily expressions, writing, directing, designing, performing and improvisation.
  • Well versed in the best practices of rehearsal, production and performance.
  • Proven effective classroom management experience, with the ability to handle emergency situations with appropriate safety protocols and a calm demeanor.
  • Ability to work well with the faculty team, students and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to a new cultural environment preferred.
