Maternity Leave Substitute Teacher (Elementary School)

Job Purpose

ICS is seeking a collaborative Christian professional to create a positive culture of learning and provide instruction aligned to ICS Learning Principles in Grade 3 (8-9 years old).  Our Curriculum is Standards based (Common Core, NGSS, C3) integrating a biblical worldview.  

This position covers our teacher on maternity leave from August 2 to December 18, 2021.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment which values student care, promotes positive relationships, and contributes to the intellectual and spiritual growth of students.
  • Collaboratively develop and deliver lessons utilizing differentiation and inquiry strategies that align with the school’s curriculum. 
  • Implement assessments that facilitate timely and effective formative feedback as well as sound summative evaluation of learning.
  • Maintain regular communication and trust with parents in a welcoming, open and cooperative manner.
  • Provide support in administrative tasks such as curriculum management, collaboration with Grade Level team, supervising students in school and after school, as well as co-curricular activities.


  • A bachelor degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, or bachelor degree in any related disciplines with PGCE/PGDE or equivalent awarded by an accredited university.
  • Experience in classroom teaching with primary/elementary grade level students. Experience with Reading and Writing Workshop components and logistics are highly preferred.
  • Strong passion and commitment to Christian education, with a positive attitude, forward thinking and a learning to learn mindset.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and cultivate an enjoyable process for students to inquire subject knowledge.
  • Proven effective classroom management experience, with the ability to handle emergency situations with appropriate safety protocols and a calm demeanor.
