Curriculum Coordinator (Secondary School)

Job Description

The job holder will provide key guidance, communication, administrative and instructional support, coaching, and professional learning related to secondary school (SS) curriculum, curriculum alignment, orientation programs, and utilization of the Learning Management System PowerSchool Learning.

Key Responsibilities

1.    Curriculum Alignment

  • Support SS faculty and administrators in aligning standards, curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Support SS faculty and administrators in aligning assessment with curriculum and instruction according to Understanding by Design unit principles.
  • Collaborate with the SS Teacher-Librarian and Department Chairs to align textbook, technology tools, and other resources used in the secondary schools.
  • Collaborate with the SS faculty and administrators to evaluate and align instructional resources (including supplementary resources) and provide and/or research relevant training on the use of resources.
  • Collaborate with University Advisors to ensure curriculum alignment leading to university study.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction to support the development, maintenance, and review of SS curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis, ensuring the SS curriculum is well articulated.


2.    Coaching & Instructional Support

  • Coach and support teachers one-on-one and in small groups to support growth aligned to the ICS teaching and learning systems.
  • Mentor new teachers as requested by the SS Principals.
  • Provide personalized support based on the goals and identified needs of teachers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with teachers based on mutual respect, positivity, and a growth mindset.
  • Facilitate mutual problem solving to assist teachers in implementing and mastering their curriculum and instruction. 
  • Manage time and provide schedule flexibility that maximizes teacher schedules and learning.
  • Model continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and go above and beyond to ensure faculty are supported in fostering student academic success.

3. Designing and Communicating Secondary Student Curriculum

  • Co-design and update the SS course offerings booklets.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction and the SS Principals to improve programs that support SS student learning and well-being.
  • Collaborate with the SS Principals in developing and updating handbooks and manuals in areas of responsibility.
  • Evaluate online course offerings and propose changes.


4.     Training and Support of Faculty

  • Assist with the orientation of new SS faculty in relation to SS curriculum.
  • Provide support and training for SS faculty utilizing the Learning Management System PowerSchool Learning to support quality teaching and learning.
  • Provide professional learning related to areas of responsibility.


5.     Others

  • Attend relevant SS forums as requested by the Dean of Curriculum & Instruction.
  • Fulfill other jobs and responsibilities reasonably assigned by the Dean of Curriculum & Instruction.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or Curriculum and Instruction preferred.
  • Cognitive coaching certification is highly preferred, and if not certified, the candidate must be willing to be trained.
  • At least 5 years of classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience in coaching adults is preferred.
  • Experience in standards-based curriculum, assessment, and instruction.
  • Previous experience in an international school and familiarity with North American curriculum is highly preferred.

  • Able to demonstrate coaching qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with faculty, administrators, parents, students, school staff and the general public.
  • Able to motivate and facilitate faculty.
  • Able to set, communicate, monitor and evaluate goals.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, able to resolve conflicts and balance multiple parties’ interests.
  • High level of personal accountability.
  • Openness to give and receive feedback to facilitate growth and achievement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, inclusive of meeting facilitation, group presentation, accurate documentation and appropriate correspondence.
  • Expertise in problem-solving, critical thinking and strategizing skills.
