School Health Officer

Job Purpose

This is an exciting role where you are able to provide professional, nursing support to students, athletic programs and extracurricular activities.  The primary work location will be on Shek Mun Campus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing support during the school day including but not limited to first-aid and treatment in athletic programs, extracurricular activities and emergency situations therein.
  • Prevent (e.g. taping and bracing), assess and treat athletic injuries.
  • Work with the Athletic Director to review the athletic programs and extracurricular activities in view of preventing and mitigating risks of injuries.
  • Work in partnership with part-time sports coaches to ensure a safe environment for participants with their chosen sports
  • Collaborate with the School Health Officer to provide first aid training to new faculty and staff, and assist in the control of communicable disease through preventative measures, early detection surveillance and reporting of contagious diseases.
  • Maintain good housekeeping including hygiene, adequate storage of medication, and complete attendance and accident reports.
  • Orchestrate follow up actions with parents, health professionals or CHP if necessary.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, pediatric sports medicine or related discipline.
  • 3 years’ experience in pediatric/adolescent healthcare or handling of orthopedic injuries.
  • Solid experience in development and execution of protocols and procedures of managing sport-related injuries and rehabilitation of injuries will be a definite advantage.
  • Certified first-aid trainers with a valid licence are preferred.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Solid understanding of government requirements on medical health and safety in school.
  • The normal office hours for the job holder during school days will be 10:00am to 6:30pm.  S/he should also be fully cognizant of the confidential nature of work and the need to work outside normal office hours as and when required.
