Admissions FAQs Print

Q:  When can I submit an application for my child?

Parents are advised to submit application for their child at least one year before the year of entry.  Please refer to the Application Deadlines in the "Application Forms" Section.

Q:  Will you accept new students during the school year?

Yes, subject to availability and results of admissions screening.  High School students are generally not admitted after the 20th day of school for the term in which they apply.  We prefer not to accept students after the start of the second semester unless they are transferring from an overseas school with a similar curriculum.

Q:  What do I have to do to apply?

Please review our Admissions Policies and Procedures posted on our website.  You can then download and complete the Application Form and submit it together with a recent passport size photo of the applicant and all the required documents as listed on the Application Checklist.

Q:  How much do you charge for tuition?  Are there other costs?

Please refer to the "Fees and Debenture" section for updated tuition and details on other payment.

Q:  Does ICS offer financial aid to families who cannot afford the tuition?

Yes.  Our school provides a Financial Aid Scheme to support families with proven financial needs.  Financial Aid Application Forms and Debenture Relief Application Forms are available for downloading on our school website.  Completed forms should be submitted to the Central Administration Office at the school address.  Our School Finance Committee will meet after April 15 each year to discuss all individual applications and will notify you on the status of your application soon after.

Q:  My child studies at a local primary school, can he/she apply to your school?

Our school offers a program based on U.S. curriculum with English as the only language of instruction (with the exception of Mandarin and other foreign language class).  An applicant studying in a local school may face the challenge of meeting the standard of English Proficiency required by ICS.  If you choose to submit your child's application, our Admissions Team will review your child's academic records and results of admission testing to determine whether your child is a good match.

Q:  What will be tested during the admission screening and how will it be conducted?  Will the parents be interviewed as well?

An applicant who is offered an admission screening will be tested on English, Math, Reading, Writing and Problem Solving Skills that are at grade level.

  • R1 students may be tested in small groups format
  • R2 students will be interviewed on an individual basis
  • Elementary screening lasts between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on grade level
  • Secondary screening is approximately 3 hours in duration
  • Parents of students who are likely to be admitted will be interviewed as well.

Q:  Does your school accept students with special needs?

ICS is committed to provide the best possible resources and curriculum to our students.  Parents however, should understand that the school has limited resources allocated to support students who may have exceptional needs.  It will be in the best interest of both the applicant and the school for parents to communicate the applicant’s needs to the Admissions Office before applying for admission.  It is mandatory that all educational, psychological and medical reports be submitted together with the application forms.

Q:  My family will be relocating to Hong Kong in the summer, will my child be guaranteed a place at ICS in the Fall?

An overseas applicant is encouraged to submit his/her application as early as possible and a place will be offered depending on availability.  Should the applicant request that a vacancy be reserved, the required tuition deposit must be submitted.  This tuition deposit will be refunded if the overseas applicant is not able to pass the admission screening or is unable to obtain permission to remain in Hong Kong.
