Welcome to the Kindergarten! Print

You are invited to come and see for yourself that we have a great place for young children.  The teachers love our students, the students love their teachers and the love of Jesus Christ is central to what we do and who we are.  Classes are set up in the “Western” style—with lots of instructional and play centers to direct children’s learning through active, collaborative, “hands-on” experiences.  Character building-- practicing love and concern for others-- is as important to us as academic skills.

Curriculum
As an international school, all classes are taught in English.  Kindergarten three-year-olds learn science concepts, about the world around them, and how to get along well in a group setting.  With the four-year-olds, phonics, handwriting, and beginning math skills are added.  The developmentally appropriate program is American based.  Academics are balanced with artistic and physical activities. Everything is taught from a Biblical Christian worldview.  The classes are half-day and they transition well to the Elementary School’s reading and writing challenges.  Our library has a large selection of English books for the children to check out and read with their parents at home.

Staffing
The strength of our school is our staff.  Each of the teachers is selected for their skills as an educator, their demonstrated understanding of children, and their commitment to Christian ministry.  There are up to 15 students in each of the half-day three-year-old and four-year-old classes.  Each level also has teacher assistants in the classrooms and playroom, so the ratio is approximately 10:1. All teachers are required to possess a BA degree and are registered with “Qualified Kindergarten Teacher” status with the Hong Kong Education Bureau.

Campus
The Kindergarten Campus is on the 7th floor of Jubilee Court Shopping Center between the Palazzo and Royal Ascot housing estates, near the Fo Tan MTR.  The classrooms have lots of natural light and are equipped for active learning.  There is a covered open air play area as well as an air-conditioned indoor multipurpose room to provide comfortable year-round play and space for P.E.

Parent Involvement
Parents are encouraged and welcomed to come be a part of their child’s classroom experience.  They may volunteer as a classroom helper, coordinate special activities (parties, book-club, library, etc.) and accompany the class on field trips.  Parents are the primary educators of their children, so an “open door” policy is provided for them to participate in the school hours, too.  We want them to be familiar with the school routines, curriculum, and classmates.  Our goal is to build a community of families that are familiar with and committed to ICS.  Parent involvement is an important part of the ongoing life of the school.

Come and join us!
