Q: Does ICS attend recruiting fairs? The ICS Headmaster attends recruiting fairs at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in the first weekend of February and other SEARCH Associate job fairs. ICS is looking for teachers that have made a personal decision to follow Jesus Christ who also agree with the ICS Doctrinal Statement of Faith, found on the last page of the teacher application. Q: Can I become a teacher in Hong Kong if I have a bachelor’s degree that is not in education? There are two levels of teachers in Hong Kong – registered teachers and permitted teachers.
Each individual’s transcript must be evaluated by the HKCAAVQ (Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications). Many educational institutes in Hong Kong hire both registered teachers and permitted teachers. Q: Can I become a teacher at ICS if have a bachelor’s degree that is not in education? ICS prefers to hire registered teachers that have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from a university accredited with the CHEA (Council for Higher Education Accreditation). Q: Can I become a teacher at ICS immediately after I finish my Bachelor’s Degree in Education? ICS prefers to hire teachers that have at least two years of experience. Q: Can I teach English as a Second Language (ESL) at ICS? The medium of instruction at ICS is English, so we hire qualified teachers to teach a variety of subjects. ICS has only one Literacy Specialist position and vacancies are posted on the website when we are recruiting for that position. Q: What is the benefit package for teachers? In addition to a salary provided based on a pre-determined pay scale, ICS offers a comprehensive benefits package including:

We ask for four recommendations: one pastoral reference, one Christian character reference, and two employment references (one needs to be from an immediate supervisor). Q: Will you hire me if I do not have a current pastoral reference? ICS strongly encourages its teachers to have a growing faith and current involvement in a local church. Q: Will ICS sponsor a work visa for me if I want to work at ICS temporarily, part time, or for the summer program? ICS is only able to sponsor a work visa for teachers who come to work full time during the academic year. We are not able to sponsor visas for part time or temporary work. Q: How long is the typical teacher contract? New teachers are generally hired under a two-year contract. Q: Do I need to be part of a teaching couple to apply? ICS prefers hiring teaching couples because of the cost savings, but we also hire qualified singles. ICS does not hire unmarried couples. |
