Mission Statement - What We DoESlib

The ICS library exists to provide ICS students with the resources they need to ensure that they are prepared for admission into the university of their choice and to help them become integrated, thinking and effective Christians in a non-Christian world that it is their privilege and responsibility to help redeem.

Purpose Statement - How We Do It

The purpose of the ICS Libraries is three fold:

  1. To support the curriculum through the purchase of materials that are appropriate for the age and instructional needs of the students and staff.
  2. To stimulate life long learning through a love of reading.
  3. To provide the materials and instruction that will allow ICS students to develop the research and problem solving skills that will allow them to better accomplish the purpose that God has for their lives.

Philosophy Statement - Why We Do It

The ICS librarians feel that literacy and numeracy are essential steps in developing spiritual maturity and will encourage their development in every ICS student.

ESlib3Peter & Florence Wu Elementary School Library

The Peter & Florence Wu Library, located on the 3rd floor of the elementary wing, is a bustling facility with students, parents, and teachers seen throughout the day browsing, reading, doing homework, checking out materials, or just sitting by the windows to watch the activity on the podium level below.

In addition to approximately 12,600 volumes, resources include newspapers, magazines, and audio and visual materials.  Online data bases such as Britannica Online and Newsbank may be accessed for student research.  Eclass allows students to search the library holdings or access databases from home.

Accelerated Reader as well as a variety of reading promotions (i.e. Reading Olympics, Reading Around the World, I Love to Read) sponsored by the library throughout the year, aim to encourage and support literacy.

As a special focus for emerging readers, the library has a separate area for picture books as well as a section for easier non-fiction materials.

A circular room, with raised seating, equipped with a visualizer, computer, and LCD projector further enhance class lessons involving library skills, literature appreciation, Dewey Decimal Classification System, usage of various reference books, and how to prepare a bibliography.

William Lam Secondary School LibrarySSLib2

The Secondary Library caters to the needs of ICS students Grades 6-12 and of the staff school wide.  It manages and promotes an extensive Accelerated Reader program, maintains a comprehensive suite of electronic databases and houses the Yvette Dreher Christian Fiction collection, as well as a growing professional development collection.  The library manages the Master Textbook list and is responsible for assigning textbooks to Middle and High School students.  It currently holds nearly 18,000 items that can be checked out.  The library strives to integrate its growing collections into the school curriculum and into the daily life of the entire ICS family -teachers, students, staff and parents - all of whom are welcome to visit the library and use it as a place of study, contemplation and research.

Chinese Library

There are collections of good quality Chinese fiction and non-fiction books in both of the Elementary and Secondary libraries. Shelving of Chinese books is based on Dewey Classification.  We try to provide a wide variety of Chinese books to suit the diverse interests of our school students.

The Peter & Florence Wu Elementary School Library houses easy Chinese fiction designed for students who are beginning to learn Chinese.  These books are designed to build confidence in reading Chinese books with more pictures and few words.  Students are welcome to browse the Chinese books shelves and hunt for their favorite books in our libraries.  We will continue to expand the Chinese collection and promote reading to serve the whole school community.
